Credit Rating Overseas

If a person gets a job overseas and is required to live in another country and lets say, e.g., gets a credit card in x country. Does the British credit rating follow them or do they have a fresh credit rating in the other country?

As the UK finance companies have little access to overseas financial personal data then the credit rating is not usually considered.

One exception of course is if you have been dealing with an international company that has branches (or affiliated companies) in both countries - MBNA operates in many countries, for example.

So, reading between the lines in view of your last post, you have run up debts you can't pay, and are just going to run away and try to get more debt. Yeah, sound thinking.....

No, not really! Basically, here's the situation... I've been offered a job (full-time) abroad. It could keep me there for a long time, it could not. I understand my debts are my debts and I'm obliged to pay them... Though I now kinda hate my Masters loan!! But, if the job does keep me there for the long-run I want to know (it seems to be a good opportunity) if I will be able to get a mortgage etc or if my student debts will hound me to the edge of Hell for the rest of my life!

You won't have any credit record at all in the overseas country so will have difficulty getting a credit card. If you ask them to they MAY be prepared to look at your British record and take it into account or your employer may be prepared to provide a reference.
