0800 number ringing mobile

Has anyone been hassled by strange 0800 numbers ringing them?

I got a missed call at lunchtime from an 0800 number and googled it and it seems to be some kind of thing where they just hang up when you answer?

If they ring again (which most people report that they do) should i answer it or divert it to voicemail? (If I let it ring it will go onto voicemail anyway)

Also is there anywhere online i can report it if it continues?

A lot of these numbers belong to call centres. The computer rings the number at random. When you answer - if an operator is free then they will talk to you. If none of the operators are free then the line will hang up. Its a pain, but thats technology for you.

Could you go on the Telephone Preference List. That way, you can temporarily get rid of unwanted calls from certain numbers, but once you're in the system, others'll find you eventually!
