Does anyone know how long it takes to claim back BANK charges from the first letter sent to them, to recieving a refund. Is it as easy as some of these articles i've read make out?

It can be as quick as 6 weeks, but I'd allow 8 to 10 weeks.
That's assuming you will follow up with the next stage of correspondence promptly!

After sending the initial request and copies of statements, what should I say if they say no?
I have not done it personally but there was a complete stage by stage guide of how to do this on www.moneysavingexpert.com believe it told you what to do at each stage if they were trying to say no etc. Right up until the point of them threatening court and saying stick with it cause they would perhaps even back down on the day.
It depends on the bank, the only person I know who has done it had the money in the bank less than 2 weeks from posting the first letter, and that was with rejecting the first offer and accepting the second.

Put in the end of each letter sent that you would like a response within 2 weeks and send it recorded delivery
