hI,I have recently opened up an old fireplace, back to the original sides and back, below the original arch though. The opening was covered in old flakey soot,I want to do this project myself but wondered if anyone could advise me on what I can do to make it all fireproof.I bought some lime mortar but not sure if fire bricks or if there are any other ways I can do this.Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks
Why not just pick out all the old pointing, clean up the bricks or stones and repoint, you have got the right mortar as the lime makes it flexible, you should not have to put fire bricks in, depends what you actually want to do.
