My mother is in a nursing home (note nursing home not residential) following a stroke, she is wheelchair bound due to a dead left leg and dead left arm. Her home is over 100 miles from my house and I would like to have her close to my family for a couple of days at christmas. how do I find a home with nursing care in my area who will take a guest for a couple of days?

How much nursing care does she need? If it's not that intensive and family could do alot then she could maybe stay at yours or a family members house, and arrange for a nurse or care worker (depending on whether the NHS or Social Services are the Keyworkers). Who will be on duty for your area during her stay, to come and assist or manage hygiene needs or other needs that cannot be met by the family. This would usually be a 1hour visit . If she needs more care then ask the home she is currently in about any respite services they know of, and there's bound to be a similar service in your area.
I presume that your mother has a social worker? If so she/he would probably be the best person to ask for advice as they will know all about your mothers situation. They will be able to liase with social services in your area to arrange a suitable nursing home (if it is not possible for you to have her at home). Is she well enough to travel over 100 miles?
