Going on from drewvis' question below, I live with my Dad who was declared bankrupt (which has now passed). Would his financial status have any baring on decisions about me borrowing?

No, it shouldn't. You should be credit scored on your own merit. Some companies use different scoring systems so what may be acceptable to one company is perhaps not with another.
If you have had any financial connection such as a joint account it could affect you - otherwise it shouldn't. Get your files from the 3 agencies - Experian, Call Credit, Equifax - and see if there is any link. If necessary you can ask them to register a dissociation to make it clear your finances are separate.
