Seems a bit mean if you booked a day off a month in advance. As suggested, could you swap with a colleague? Up to you just how important it is.

You've already asked this question.

You should have requested a day off before buying the ticket.

Managers have a right to decline time off.

How many weeks in advance do you have to apply for a day off?

You need to decide what is important. A good employment record and a job or no income.
Get a swap with someone who is off.
what's more important to you, your job or the game??

Booked off a month in advance
If you've had the last few Saturdays off maybe someone else wanted the day. What does your contract say about working weekends. Maybe you have to work one in three or similar

Did you book it off a month ago or did you request it a month ago?

A request for a day off needs only a minimum of a day's notice of a refusal so you should have made sure you got the confirmation before buying the ticket.
Have you informed the lady who has seen your CV and will be contacting you (for another job, i presume) that you must have time off to watch the rugby?
