Hi - Firstly, this is something that happened nearly 17 years ago but is something that has stuck in my mind ever since. Secondly, it is rather long winded so please accept my apologies in advance! I purchased a car through a dealership with car finance provided by Black Horse. The car was stolen and never recovered. After nearly a year of wrangling with my then insurance company they refused to pay as my then partner, who was on the insurance policy as the main driver, told the insurance provider that she was the owner of the vehicle when it was actually my name on the vehicles log book (I was unaware of this). She was older than me and at the time I was under 25 so it made financial sense to have her as the main driver. Whilst this dispute was taking place I was advised by a Solicitor to stop making payments to Black Horse. Eventually when the dispute reached its conclusion I contacted Black Horse and made arrangements to begin paying back the finance for a car that I no longer had. This arrangement continued for at least 2 years. However, I had cause to contact them and whilst I was speaking to an advisor he let it slip that the finance was settled by their own insurance broker at the time that I ceased making payments. I asked why I hadn't been informed as I was still making payments (£250 per month) and he said that they thought I was paying them out of the goodness of my heart. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. My finance was settled and I no longer owed anything but I has been paying for something that I didn't need to. I've always wondered if I'm better cutting my losses so to speak or whether its worth pursuing a claim to get the money back that I paid after everything had been settled. Apologies for the long story, I've tried to be as brief as possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Seems to be a legal question. Might have been better put in the law forum. But see if folk see it here first.
are you serious? YOU owed the money for YOUR car.
