Despite alll the crocodile tears in front of the Commons Select Committee,
Mr Ashley is still up to his old tricks it would seem, according to this undercover investigation by CH4.

Are you confusing Sports Direct and JD Sports, mikey?
Mr Ashley?
I did not realise he was involved with JD Sports?

Ashley has a 29.4% stake in Blacks Leisure Group, the owner of Millets and Mambo, and is thought to hold stakes in JJB Sports and 19% of JD Sports.

My mistake chaps, but an easy one to make......both companies operate under the same methods...paying their staff less than minimum wage.

But with all the publicity that ensued from Ashley and Sports Direct, its a wonder that J D Sports should be trying to get away with the self-same offence. Greedy profiteering....again.

Apologies to Ashely if he reading this.
Sports Direct has a 6% holding in JD sports. The largest shareholder is the Pentland Group who own just over 50% of the company. This information is courtesy of wikipedia.

Thanks Grumpy !

People who buy from J D Sports are supporting and condoning illegal working practises, which is why I won't shop there. But others can make their own minds up about that.

Three cheers for CH4 in bringing this to out attention !
Thanks for the info on the share holdings - I didn't know about that. Ashley certainly isn't on the board of JD but maybe he has some influence through Sports Direct's small share holding although I doubt it is significant

If you were to walk into a branch of J D Sports or Sports Direct, you could be forgiven for being confused as to which shop you are actually in.

But it would seem from last nights CH4 news, that the similarity goes deeper that the shop displays.

If these illegal working practises exist in both these shops, how do we know that it isn't widespread in lots of other retail outlets as well ?

Once again CH4 has come up trumps.

See post @ 08:51
didja see him give up a wad of £50s at a check in ?
No irony klaxons sounded - and he didnt even blush as the cameras flashed

and yes a slap on the wrists is not gonna change his ways is it ?
Question Author
PP....have you mixed up your posts this morning ?
So are these people forced to work in these places?
Question Author
TTT....what point are you trying but failing to make ?

Its completely irrelevant whether people are forced to work in places like J D Sports, if the company is breaking the law on pay and conditions.
I think it's relevant, they are not rounded up as slaves and forced into the "work house" they don't have to work there, do they? It's a free ish country is it not?
Question Author
TTT..........either you haven't seen the link I provided above, or you think that J D Sports, and other unscrupulous should be above the law ?

Which is it ? Do you think that the law should be applied here or not ?
Yes, they should obey the law and be prosecuted for transgressions like all of us, no one is disputing that but perhaps you can tell me how all these "slaves" are forced to work in these places because I thought it was not compulsory.
whenever I hate a job, I interview other employers for the right to employ my services, I was under the impression that was standard practice, I believe slavery was abolished in the 19th century so please enlighten me.
They aren't slaves... the link is including time spent going in and out of the building- that isn't "working". Homecare agencies pay much less than that, as they count travel time as a "break". It is legal, though
Question Author
TTT...At we have that clear !

If you had watched the CH4 link, then you would have an idea of why people work there. These may be the only jobs in the area, and people would lose their benefits if they refused to take up work that is offered by the Agencies.

Lets prosecute J D Sports for using these illegal working practises, and lets start prosecuting them today, instead of sitting around with our thumbs up our bottoms, as the various Government Depts, seem keen to do.

When these workers can earn a low-ish but honest wage, maybe they will just get on with it.

Why is it that it takes CH4, and others, to bring this to our attention, before anybody acts ?
I accept all of that but to read this thread you'd think they have been forced to work for these employers.
