I made a payment from my Barclay's current account into someone else's HSBC credit card account. How long will it take to go through?

Normally it is the same day, definitely by the next day.
Paying a credit card account isn't (I don't think) covered by Faster Payments so may not be next day.
If you used online banking, usually within two hours or, at the latest, by the end of the next working day:

If you went into a branch, see here:

(When reading those links, note that HSBC is part of the 'Faster Payments' group).
Beware banks. I've just had a letter saying mine are making changes. Too much to read it all and digest it, I can't do much about it anyway, but one of the things that stuck out was that unlike present where money from personal cheques is available immediately (or if a miracle happens and you get interest it will start accumulating it immediately) it will now take 2 to 4 days whilst it is apparently in limbo.
Cheques have always had a clearing period, OG. I remember when it could take 10 days, so the new system of 2-4 days is much better.
I have never known cheques clear immediately
I've never done it, but I believe you can get instant clearance of a cheque - for a fee!
That's true, Jackdaw - it used to be around £20.
cheques 2-4-6 rule
arrives at other end at day 2
funz available to the payee at day 4
day 6 last day available for payer to cancel

and yes for the eagle eyed - the 246 fraud is where the payee clears his account on day 4 and the payer cancels before day 6
( and both go to prison )

electronic transfer which I dont often do because I am old and I have been cloned should be same day
The bank letter claims it does, but will not any longer.
Everyone is looking for ways to make more money and offer you less.
What bank are you with, OG?
Lloyds
Although if they don't put more cashiers on at the branch I'm unsure how much longer I will be.
