I flew back from Porto to Madrid the other day. What was slightly unnerving was the airplane, it was pure white, no ryanair logo or anything whatsoever. When i asked the flight attendant he just made some unfunny joke.

Why is that unnerving, when airlines are short of aircraft they rent them in from specialist suppliers (or other airlines), if a specialist the aircraft would be un-liveried.

maybe i´ve seen too many hollywood films.
It's quite likely that a large number of airlines lease their aircraft, rather than buy them. If so, it wouldn't be unusual for a newly-leased plane (or one that was on a very short-term lease, to cover for another that's being serviced) to be un-livered.

After all, none of our country's railway operators owns any of their trains. (They're all leased). So they're sometimes seen in the livery of another company or just plain white (perhaps with some hastily applied stickers). Would travelling on such a train also unnerve you?
I have heard pure white aircraft being called "flying tampons" before now.

I'll get my coat.
a less visible target for terrorist ground-to-air missiles?

it just seemed odd, maybe its happened before, but i never noticed it. what was odd as you said chris, the hastily numbered seats, plus i noticed my seat was just a little loose, well not the actual seat, but the arms of the seat could´ve done with a bit of tightening. Fortunately the flight was less than 1 hour, so by the time we had the safetly talks, drinks+food trolley, scratch cards, we were ready to land, so not enough time to panic or get too worried.
You should have been on the Monarch flight with me, Piggy......the really strange strong smell was explained when I could only take my seat after the steward removed the huge pot of glue with a brush sticking out that was plonked on it....I sat very still for the flight....☺
Perhaps they know something the rest of us don't. During the cold war the V bomber's were painted anti flash white.
