We have been left around £5k in cash, but at least 3/4 of it is in the old £20 notes with Edward Elgar on. i understand the BOE has to exchange them and we can either go in person (live to far away) or post them. do Banks not change them any more? If we have to popst to the BOE whats the safest way to send them, many thanks
Lol my dad has found an old tin in his loft with rolls of this money in wrapped in the receipt from the bank when he took the money out of post office, dated June 2008! So he has given it to me :)
Ha ha mayalynne=that story from Lofty23 always puzzled me and we never heard what happened, and it immediately came to mind. I just typed 'loft' in the AB search box and it came up straight away
I must admit lofts are wonderful things ;) ive just looked on ebay and people are selling £20 for above face value, why?? I have also googled these notes and come across auctionners etc who buy banknotes and coins, maybe i should ask if they would be interested in buying!
Yes, sorry for the diversion breathe21- we are not really helping are we. Have you asked the bank? You are right though-you should look at selling on ebay, but take care with scams

Note that compensation of up to £2500 is payable in respect of each package sent by Special Delivery - when the higher fee is paid - so you should send your notes in TWO packages. NB: Make sure that you tell the Post Office assistant that you require the service with £2500 compensation - some lazy staff forget to ask and just use the ordinary service with only £500 compensation available.
