local auction houses

a lot of auctions i go to these days seem to have online bidding, which makes it harder to grab a bargain.

do any of you have local auction houses near you that you know still sell just to the people in the room?

any location is appreciated as i travel all over.

i think you may find that very difficult nowdays!

they actively encourage online and phone bidding as the need to maximise the potential number of buyers. with so many antiques based programmes about it is hharder to get a very low price on anything decent. It's why dealers hit the car boot sales

I can't think of any in or near Edinburgh unless they are very small. As has been said here all auction houses seek to maximise the price obtained. To do this they need maximum publicity. The internet provides a very cheap way to achieve this.
