It depends. How long ago is the 'past' and did you pay the debts?

the lenders will tell you.

no-one else can advise unless they have full access to your history, current financial situation etc.

call your bank in first instance

i have had a problem 6yrs ago .abbeynational have said no but gave me an overdraft facility.at 12% apr.

i am looking to borrow £2000 to complete my partners bathroom and dinning room ect ect.I have banked with abbey for 2years this feb and they have given me an od facility 5 mnths ago for 500 on 2 seperate account but declined the loan due to missing a payment by d/debit for 36.00.That was my fault due to paying it throught the atm machine that evening.instead of going in and paying it over the till.i applied through a company called loan finder who sayed they shall do all the hard work for me i just enter my deatils once and they find a lender but they failed to tell me that they make a number of applications if your 1st 1 is unsucessfull.so on my file it looks bad again.

i also live with my partner who the morgage is in her name.i am trying to suprise her by doing the work whilst she is away on a course for a couple of weeks

having been given £1000 overdraft just 5 months ago i doubt they will be falloing over themselves to lend more. Unless of course the overdraft is paid off.

Plus they often ask for reasons for requiring loan, and paying to do up a house that isnt even yours wouldnt be on top of list for money lending.

can anyone tell me how i check my credit rating for free .i hace just paid experian for a full report but just wiped it of screen by mistake.i have tried to get it back up but they want me to pay again????.just rang the number and been told i can log back in and see my rating but have to pay for a report
