It been discussed thousands of times but it it possible to find out if I paid ppi with out committing myself to any firm .Can you just phone up,your bank

Yes. But it could have been with other provider. best to look at your credit file and see which companies you had dealings with in the financial sector. Often though you would remember if you had the type of product that came with PPI- it would have been a loan or credit purchase and you'd probably remember having to pay a large monthly payment that was over the odds.
