can anyone explain why you would want your buildings and contents insurance in joint names?  It costs more to do this and I don't really see what benefit there would be to a co-habiting couple.  Anyone advise??

Insurable or financial interest. Say the worst happened and the whole lot went up in smoke, and the payout cheque was given to you (or partner) -   the other party would be left with nothing! Worst case scenario - they could then decide to leave......
