....does the next one taken revert back to the prior date, or does it stay being taken from the account at the later date? TIA

On the agreed date (i.e. the earlier date) unless the situation that caused the last one to be taken late arises again or a new payment date is agreed

OK guys thanks. It won't happen again.
Usually, if a direct debit is taken late, then the next payment is taken on the due date, or as soon as possible thereafter, as per the T&C's on the DD mandate. This is usual when the due date falls on a Bank Holiday, IMO.
