Nothing will happen at all. Had the credit card company not have wanted you go over the limit they wouldn't have authorised the transaction. The fact that they did authorise it means that all is fine. No doubt your limit will be increased and rise to the next level next time you get a bill.

No worries at all, all the more interest for them.
^^^ PS

Just check that I have understood you correctly. When you say over your limit do you mean over your credit limit or do you mean that you have not paid the minimum amount due this month?

If the first then all's well as I said before. If in fact yoru are £20 short in this month's payment, you will be charged a non-payment fee and more interest on the amount. But unless you do it regularly, you're unlikely to get a bad credit rating for a one off occurence.

Yes you are correctly, basically I booked a hotel and that took me £20 over my limit as soon as I spotted it I have paid 50% of the balance to bring it back in line however with it been over for 48 hours I am concerned this will be reported on my credit file and I am currently in the mortgage application stage
nothing will happen x
I hope that your username is not your real name! That is not really very helpful on this site.

Yes it is my name , what effect does that have one my question ?
You can in theory at least be identified and become subject to blackmail id theft, spam, etc - depending on what you post.

If it was a hotel they may only have 'earmarked' the money, not actually taken it
It's not an over credit because it is so low amount.
Most likely consequence if any is you will get a letter from the card company increasing your credit limit, "to be helpful".
