I went to see the consultant today - he said he won't risk doing a hysterectomy because it's not a "life or death" and because there must have been some reason that my first blood test showed type 1/2 von willbrand

Two subsequent blood tests have shown normal results - why won't he accept that the first one was a mistake? My periods are ruining my life (and have done for over 20 years) - they lead to me losing my job last year.

I know it's not "life or death" but I don't have vW do i?

Any advice welcome - medical or not - but especially from Abers with medical experience

F.A.O Sqad - the consultant I saw (Mr De Bono) said quote "if we operate, you will be in grave danger" - I thought vW was not such a serious condition? thought it could be controlled with some pre-op jabs?
There is another alternative, endometrial ablation, perhaps a word with your consultant to see if this would be suitable for you.
Hi!....difficult, very difficult.

First question is, have you got VWD?
For
1) Heavy bleeding
2) one test + for VWD
Against
1) 2 recent tests neg for VWD

On balance one cannot commit oneself either way.

Second question is, what is causing your heavy bleeds? I have looked in your past postings and cannot find an answer.

Endometrial Ablation,as suggested by honky-tonk MIGHT be an alternative depending upon the cause of your heavy bleeds.

My advice: go to see your GP and quite politely put the position to him and ask if a second opinion would be helpful. Don´t barge in and tell him that the medical profession are a load of w@nkers, as some ABers would do, as hat would just put his back up.

Difficult problem, keep me informed.

Thank you honky and Sqad - helpful as always!

I had the ablation (the microwave one, as the others would not reach all the parts of my womb apparently!) - it made no difference at all.

I think I will take your advice re the 2nd opinion. Incidentally, the consultant at Bradford Royal was quite prepared to do the hysterectomy, it's the consultant at Calderdale Royal who is against it (I changed as I moved house).

Thanks x
Halifax...thanks for the feedback.
