i thought i would ask you good folks some advice as you have all been sound advisors to me in the past. here's my dilemma: i currently live in a two up two down with hubby, 17 yr old son and three cats, whom i love dearly (my surrogate babies). this morning, i recieved a letter from the local council with the offer of housing after three years of being on the list (and not really thinking about it much). anyway, this new pad is brand new, second floor, two bed....but i can't take my cats. hubby thinks i am mad to refuse, but i like where i live, the fact that it is a house and my kitties have the freedom of several hundred yards of back gardens. we have been here for ten years and it feels like home, but we are all torn with different opinions of what to do. if this was you, what would you do? all opinions welcomed...x

why did you apply to move?
I'd say if you are happy where you are then stay there, wont be long before your son moves out. Its still only 2 bed so dont see why you need to move and someone else could do with the flat.
The pffer of a flat then? yuk!! stay put.

hubby has the notion of getting a council/housing association place for the security. i really never thought about it much until that blasted letter dropped on the doormat this morning. i love my kitties too much and he thinks i'm mad...x
lcg....'home is where the heart is'.....do you need another bedroom..really? 2nd floor pad sounds great though........I like to keep my feet on the ground. Sleep in it; surely you don't have to give a decision right away.
so the house you are now, who does that belong to?

we are in a two bed rented house at the mo. the rent is likely to be £150 pcm cheaper...but i like my house!!!!! and my cats!!!!! x
I would never ever get rid of my cat!

Each to their own but I actually choose a house in an area I hate just so I could keep my kitty!
stay where you are. let someone in need have the flat and keep your cats.
rent somewhere smaller after your son leaves home and the cats are gone
stay put ,no choice if you cant take your cats there will be other houses come up where you will be able to take them with you .also how do you know you are going to get on with who ever is in the flat living under you it could be a nightmare tennant under you
You'll regret not taking it if you were asked to leave this one for whatever reason. Security of tenure is much greater
Hi there icg76, I would never consider giving up a house to go live in a flat! Think about it, neighbours above and below, they may be fine! but on the other hand, they may be very noisy too! you have no way of knowing the situation until you get there, and then it's going to be far too late, and as to your cats, then if you want to keep them, then you should be allowed to!........After all they're part of your family!......
I would stay put personally, you cant beat good neighbours and liking your area.
I'd stay in the house. It sounds much more comfortable and friendly than a new flat. Your kitties will be much happier roaming around in back gardens they know, and anyway, if you're not allowed to take them, what would happen to them? You wouldn't be able to live happily without them!
If you hadn't received the letter you wouldn't be in this dilemma.
Bin the letter, put the kettle on and get that cake out. Have a snuggly evening watching the box with your hubby and kitties.!
Stay, you can't put a price on happiness and contentment.
think the OH wants the cheaper rent.....you better start packing. The cats will soon settle in someone elses garden.
Stay put. You would not only be giving up the cats ( I could never give up mine), but also the garden, and all the peace and pleasure of a bit of green at your doorstep. Pets ARE family,I would not want to live somewhere that did not allow them. Even if I did not have any myself.
you will miss the back garden thats a dead cert
Send your son and husband to the new house and you and the kitties stay where you are. My cats come first. If I was to buy a new house then their needs would be important - they are my babies, even if they are evil and ungrateful little monsters.
