You may have heard of this before but it's still very useful knowledge

ABOUT BEE STINGS - A GREAT THING TO KNOW...

A couple of weeks ago, I was stung by both a bee working in the garden.

My arm swelled up, so I went to the doctor. The clinic gave me cream and an antihistamine. The next day the swelling was getting progressively worse, so I went to my regular doctor. The arm was infected and needed an antibiotic. The doctor told me - “The next time you get stung, put a penny on the bite for 15 minutes". That night, my niece was stung by two bees.. I looked at the bite and it had already started to swell. So,I taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes. The next morning, there was no sign of a bite.

Wanted to share this marvellous information in case you experience the same problem. We need to keep a stock of pennies on hand. The doctor said that the copper in the penny counteracts the bite.

It definitely works! Please remember and pass this information on to your friends, children, and grandchildren.

wonder if it also works with wasp sings (says she with the hugely swollen hand and arm from a sting yesterday afternoon) it maybe is too late but going to give it a try. great tip btw
I don't think that will work for me.

Or I simply couldn't chance it......

My Mum spent my childhood training me to ALWAYS be calm around bees.

My Dad was also allergic to them..
mus t be having a really thick day today ummmmmmm - why wouldn't it work for you- I'm missing the connection to the original post.
I wouldn't risk waiting an extra 15 minutes to try it out. I haven't been stung since I was a child but the last time I did the hospital said if I ever get stung again call 999 straight away.
I'm ok with bees but allergic to wasp stings.
I have to carry an Epipen for the adrenaline, but then the rush of adrenaline in turn sets my heart tachycardia problem off..... so it's a hospital job anyhow. If I last that long...!
So far, so good. ;-)

But, laura, I will remember that tip about the penny, thanks.
Sounds nonsense to me I'm afraid, laurababy.
Did this come in one of those emails that you are asked to forward to as many friends as possible
... in fact I've just found this on an Urban Myths site:
http://urbanlegends.a...dical/a/bee_sting.htm
ah, okay I guess you must be allergic then. Understand now - thanks for the clarification. I'm not allergic but have to admit the swelling and discomfort is much more than I have had with other wasp stings. Have had a cold tea towel wrapped around it for about 12 hours and the heat coming off my hand is incredible - perhaps I should then use the tea towel to give myself a facial! Ah well -carry on with the ice packs.
factor30 maybe I should have gone on the urban myths web site instead of taking the tip at face value - then I wouldn't be sitting here with a coin strapped to my hand!
I can't remember it hurting much.....I can remember not being able to breath properly.
I go like that ummm - breathless and blue.
I'd rather be allergic to bees than wasps. Wasps sting you for no reason.

I've never been stung by a wasp though....
ummmmm - try not to be - it ain't much fun.
I don't suppose it is.....

Is it similar to bee sting?
s'pect so although I don't remember ever having a bee sting so can't speak from experience - lots of wasp ones though but none have been as painful as this one - maybe a different type of wasp.
Bees leave their stings in you...that's why I always thought they were worse. Maybe not then.
As a pest controller for 13 years and stung by wasps and bees thousands of times and I have never heard of this. personally I think it is just a myth, I tend to to think that if this was true, the whole world would know about it, probably 70% of the bees & wasp nest jobs I went to had someone that had been stung, if this method actually worked, I'm sure just one of them would have known, or surely it would have been mentioned in one of the many courses I went on?

Many people get stung by wasps and bees and after the initial sting show no other symptoms, the only problem I ever had is the sting would itch like a bitch for a few days, and it is also normal for those that get stung and swell, for that swelling to go down quite quickly.

I think the fact that this is not public knowledge says it is just a myth and doesn't actually work, maybe a bit of placebo?
It´s abracadabra treatment.
glad you're here squad - wasp sting yesterday, have had ice etc on it most of the last twelve hours or so - has now become extremely hot, swollen - not too painful but hand very stiff and swelling going up arm - am not allergic to my knowledge - carry on with ice or get further help? thanks
I think the clue as to whether it`s bo*****cks or not is in the bit at the end that tells you to pass the info onto as may people as possible.
It really annoys me when I get emails like that in my inbox
