Can anyone tell me if late August / early September is a bad time to visit Paris weatherwise? I get eaten alive by midges and mosquitos... are they a problem in Paris?

I live near Paris and have never been bothered by mosquitos. The sewerage systems in large towns and built up areas in France are disinfected to avoid this kind of problem. It's another kettle of fish in Vendée and the Riviera though....

No Paris travellers? :(
well, I've visited then and had no problems. It's not a particularly tropical or badly drained city.
As Jno suggests, you're not going to find a great deal of stagnant water (which provide the prime breeding ground for mozzies, etc) around Paris. No more so, indeed, than you would in London.

I've visited Paris in late August and not seen as much as a single gnat.

Buy some spray-on 'Jungle Formula' - sorted!
Use Avon Skin So Soft Dry Oil Body Spray. It is THE preferred choice of scottish fishermen etc . Since I discovered it about 5 years ago I have gone from having 30 bites at a times (and that was in this country) to only having one or two a summer.

Not sure about midges and mosquitos but I do know it's full of obnoxious frogs
