Every night I get really bad sleep (crusty eye bogies) in my eyes. I sometimes wake up and have difficulty even opening my eyes! I shampoo my eyes often but this makes no difference, is there anything I can do to stop it?

You shampoo your eyes? Maybe that's what causing it 4get ?!!!

Dilute baby shampoo I hope,

See your gp though in case there is an underlying infection, if Gp doesn't have anything to offer you could try a box of lidcare eyewipes they worked for a friend

my optometrist told me I had eyelash dandruff lol. So was told to start shampooing them, cotton bud and baby shampoo. its always best to shampoo your eyes
Friend also found simple eyedrops help and when it really flares up boiled nettle tea one tea bag to one pint of water steeped for 5 mins then boiled and cooled(cover while cooling) on eye pads for fifteen minutes. Strong Nettle tea also helps with ordinary dandruff (5 bags to a pint of water no need to boil afterwards)

thanks rowan and salla I had to put eye bogies as some people dont call it sleep, was the only way I could explain it

that may be what I have that optomestrist told me about sqad, but I do what she said and shampoo them but its the gunk in my eyes at night that annoys me. I wear contact lenses through day so maybe they just water alot when I dont have them in
Sounds like you have a mild dry eye complaint. The lid care wipes are good if this is complicated with posterior blepharitis or blockages of the meibomiam glands on the lids which secrete oils into the tear film helping keep the tears more stable. This would usually affect lid comfort and wearing time of your contact lenses as well. Over use of diluted baby shampoo has been found to actually damage the lid margin.

A simple thing to use is 'lacrilube' before sleeping as it provides long lasting comfort and lubrication while your eyes are moving and rubbing around beneath your closed eye lids. If you don't have a good tear stability and consistency your eyes may be gritty on waking, you may have difficulty opening them and you may get these 'eye bogies'.

A healthy diet can help with tear supply with omega 3 (found in oily fish) and flax seed oil having been found to be a great boost. If you don't have this in your normal intake then you can get these in supplement form.
