Tuby thing between your ear and throat

I've got a head cold which is ok (quite glad for it coming out at last so I can shift it as it's been lurking for a while).

On top of the cold I've got a horribly sore bit at the top right of my throat and very sore right ear as well as all the bit inbetween. It's so painful generally but especially when swallowing etc...

I've been on Soothers but they aren't helping.

Is this likely to be the cold aggravating it or is it worth getting it checked out in case it's an infection or something?

I have menieres but don't get this type of pain with it but the cold has made them even more evil than usual so can't wait to get it shifted :)

Seems like you need something much stronger than Soothers to ease it.........have you been to the docs?

If not, go and get yourself seen if it persists, or down the chemists and ask the pharmacist, as they can be really helpful sometimes and just as good as the docs too, on occasion!

Thank you :) I've been taking some cold and flu capsules as well just to keep myself on top of things for work as it's manic at the moment and just can't be off. Only taking them during the day though for work then giving them a rest in the evenings.

Hoped it would go away so I didn't have to try and get time off for the docs so might see if a pharmacist can help. They tend to backtrack though if I mention the menieres though it's not the same kind of problem if that makes sense.

Your description is a little vague, but it sounds as though you are developing a quinsy.
This "horribly sore bit"...is it an ulcer? The earache is referred pain from this "sore bit"

Sorry Squad, there is a soft patch to the right and a little further back on the root of my mouth from the lump in the middle at the top if that makes sense?

The pain seems to extend from there up to my ear. It's not like menieres pain, like a really sore throat but it's not my throat.

I get ulcers in other places though it doesn't seem to be open or more painful to the touch (when I prod it with my tongue) if that makes sense?

Will see if I can get into the walk in centre later on.

even though you don't want to be off work, you could give the cold to lots of people, meaning lots of people ahve to go off instead of just you.

It's soo painful, am used to evil ears with the menieres but this is just nasty. Only one sided thank goodness.

Will see how it goes this morning then pop up the walk in centre at lunchtime if I can to get it checked out.

If it's another infection I won't be impressed (though I'd rather that than having just googled quinsy) as just seem to keep getting them and wonderi if it's the immunosuppressants I'm on for my arthritis.

I've not taken any few a few weeks though due to a previous infection.

should you be circulating with ppl, passing infectious colds? Your prob sounds glandular?

I know mollykins, they doesn't seem to see it that way though.

I went home after being advised by the doctor to stay away from people when I had flu like symptoms when the whole swine flu thing was going round but just ended up getting som e arsey phonecalls from work and ended up going in the next day. Boss said they would probably get it anyway so to come in!!!

jen...it could be a large Aphthous ulcer which would account for the lesion and the earache.

Give is some feedback after seeing the doctor.

Finally managed to get away from work and up to the walk in centre this evening and she had a look and said it was red and sore looking both sides but more on the right and looked like an infection but it looked to be clearing itself up on its own, probably cos I've left it so long.

So lots of fluids and painrelief for me. Not long got home as was hosting a charity quiz team so hoping for a good nights sleep tonight as didn't get much last night and in serious need of some.

Only one more mad day left (monthend mania) before the weekend thank goodness then I can get me some rest time :)
