Random questions but what would it mean on an X-Ray if bits show up much lighter than they should be?

Do you mean an Xray of body parts? If so, bones stop some of the rays, so show up as white. Soft tissue, such as internal organs don't, so show up in various shades of grey. Air surrounding the body won't stop the Xrays at all, so will appear black.
Maybe the bones are not as dense as they should be? Bit of a guess though.
Radiologists are not infallible. Better hope it's underexposure!
