What to you do to raise your spirits?

Between the gloomy weather and various life circumstances, I've been depressed lately and could use a quick list from all of you creative people about what to do to make yourself feel better.

By the way, I thought of this question because I made myself an english muffin with honey on it tonight, and instantly felt better.  Not my usual mood-lifter food but it worked beautifully.

Yesterday I was completely weepy, and got advice from lovely Kags to exercise - absolutely brilliant!  I felt great last night.

Apart from a drink or to,I always look at holiday brochures, and this time of year go xmas  shopping for the family.get a good dvd from the library and watch a good film,a comedy allways does the trick!!funny enough ive just bought some american blueberry muffins  ummm lovely.Plus youve always got your friends on answerbank.
Laughing - at the world, at yourself, at anything you want to.
I know this is going to sound pretty lame but I hardly ever get down. It really takes an awful lot to make me miserable, but when that does happen I tend to look around & take stock of my life. I think of my beautiful wife, where we live & all the fantastic adventures I've had up until that point. Don't stay miserable for long after that.
ah, zgma, zgma,   good morning to you, so many, many 'creative things/hobbies you can do, which not only keep you busy/your mind occupied/lift your spirits/and then the finished 'article '/product  make you so proud of your self too........ as for advice on your depression, i am not qualified  to offer any, but perhaps tis a problem that can quickly, or even slowly  be overcome ?  yes, this miserable weather gets to us all, i hate it too ! but then, it keeps me in where i can be alone, and happily carry on with the many creative subjects i enjoy..... man/woman ? live alone ? age does not matter,
What is the weather like in the states, zgma?
You know i used to be very like this wondering what i could do to make myself more happy that was until i thought maybe just try being and be satisfied with whatever comes along, my outlook on life is soooo much better and i am a much more positive person and i enjoy life a hell of alot more in fact i am very happy with my life right now which 12 months ago would have been a very different reply from me. I love spending time with myself, my family, my now b/f, my mates and hving a good old get together is sometimes better than going out on the razz for me now, if i do go out i make it a night to remember and don't bother with my home town anymore as it is so poor and full of idiots out for a fight to prove some unknown point, which is one of my big grates!I am just happy to be alive and experiencing 24/7....
Sing Disney songs or this one..... Gray skies are gonna clear up Put on a happy face Wipe of the clouds and cheer up Put on a happy face Take of the gloomy mask of tragedy It's not your style You'll look so good that you'll be glad That you decided to smile Pick out a pleasant outlook Stick out that nobel chin Wipe off that full of doubt look Snap on a happy grin Spread sunshine all over the place And just put on a happy Put on a happy face Gray skies are gonna clear up Put on a happy face Wipe off the clouds and cheer up Put on a happy face
Or think of all the people that are worse of than you and think how lucky you are :D And eat chocolate
aw shucks zygma - thanks! For a very quick mood lifter I listen to very loud music, does it every time for me and singing along will relieve some pent up agression.

zgma I think its the time of year I sometimes get like this.

Why not have a pampering session have a lovely  soak in the bath and apply some face masks etc, do your nails, do your hair into a different style do eyebrows etc

or you could invite all your pals round get a few bottles of wine and have a good girlie gossip and laugh or watch some good films (comedys) as laughter is the best medicine failing all that put some good music on your stereo ,turn up the volume and dance around your living room.

as others have said, think about how lucky you are and better off than some people, and this may change how you feel if you are really depressed though I would go to a doctor and talk to him, and zgma always look on the bright side of life, hope you feel better soon xx

Like Kags I find listening to very loud music helps and dancing to it helps even more.  With me, it would be Queen.  Radiohead fanatic as I am, their music doesn't exactly cheer me up.  Exercise is brilliant but when you are really down it's hard to get going - but great if you can manage it.  I have taken up art again, and it has certainly helped.

Sharing thoughts with AB regulars is also a good idea!

Keep your spirits up. Luv FPxx

Loud music and an appreciation of how lucky I am helps.  Overall I am a happy person, but when the bad mood really hits, I have box of nostagia. Very corny I know, but it's got old photos, concert ticket stubs, a rock from the beach, some printed e mails, notes on scraps of paper, boarding passes, football programs, silly little things all of which have a memory attached.

Sorry you're down - been feeling a bit like that myself & it hasn't been helped at all by recent events (see my post in People titled Lock Up! ).

I'm with all the others on the music thing & exercise - just clearing up the leaves in my garden often helps.

As Fp says the thing that helps most is to tell someone about it & know that some of us are more than likely feeling the same.  People on the AB are thankfully not the 'pull yourself together & stop whining' brigade.

All the best x

Listen to The Laughing Policeman, an old song that used to be played on UK children's radio. http://www.radiocraft.co.uk/laughing_policeman.mp3
I agree with everyone who suggested music. Put on all of your fave albums, ones you haven't listened to for ages. Dance about, sing along, rememeber all the fun times you've had along to these songs. If i am feeling down, which rarely happens, i always think about how lucky i am in comparison to others who are alot worse off than me and thank my lucky stars. I find doing something, however small, to help someone else really makes me value how lucky i am, too.

My only advice is:

1. Go shoe shopping, i love shoes, they always cheer me up! (or bags!)

2. Meet mates for lunch

3. Listen to the link NoGood Boyo posted!

ha ha the laughing policeman is great, i've been having a chuckle at that one, brings back happy memories as a kid!! Thanks NoGood Boyo!

4. Read the post on jokes that was posted earlier this week, had me in fits for ages!! There are some nice people on this site that are always here when you need cheering up!

zgma.... I am thinking of you! And to that end I'll give you a clue where to look.... have a look at where I gave you 'doggy' advice!!

Tee Hee.... that'll get the readers wondering won't it!!

Take care and loads of love xxxxx

I always love a good night time drive with good music on the radio, or else a little bailey's (to warm me up!) and a stroll around the neighborhood all bundled up and soaking up the cold weather. It actually gives a new appreciation for winter! I also enjoy the occasional late night cup of coffee streched out on the couch watching Conan O'Brien on NBC. You'll be just fine kiddo, just hang in there and try not to ruminate on the bad thoughts and feelings that come up. Maybe get a babysitter and enjoy an evening out with the company of your choice. If there's something that you've been meaning to get done - even if it's chores - do it and you'll feel a lot better once it's done. And by all means keep coming to see your friends on AB. Cheers!
