Deep vein thrombosis is where a clot forms in a vein , normally in the lower body, and blocks blood flow, causing tissue death. Parts of this clot can travel through the bloodstream to other sites and cause trouble all over. The actual mechanism is debated but it is more common in smokers, people who drink, and those who are sedentary. As for the long haul flights thing it is thought that being in one place cramped for a long time can cause the clots to form.
If blood circulates too slowly in your body, it can cause blood clotting and when this blood clotting appears in a vein deep inside the body, this condition is termed as the DVT or Deep Vein Thrombosis.
There is a number of causes for DVT like-
1. Pregnancy
2. Obesity
3. Sitting for a long duration
4. Due to age
5. Smoking
6. Injury to a vein
Now, if you wish to prevent this disease, you can opt to wear compression socks. Compression socks can be very beneficial in this condition.
