friends for dinner tomorrow. The problem is is that I'll probably end up cooking it as per usual. She can't handle raw meat or chicken so she waits for me to come and prepare it for roasting.

When I was younger my mum I used to watch my mum prepare and cook food and she used to get me to clean the chicken and de-giblet it so I have no problems doing it.

Does anyone else have an aversion to touching raw meat or is it just my friend?

when I was little I used to help my gran pluck poultry although she used to send me indoors when she was actually going to kill it - but I'm not keen on handling liver....
I'm sure she's not alone tigger, just begs the question why she chooses to have meals like that when friends are coming round. There are plenty of things she could cook with minimal handling.
I must admit it's never bothered me either - just had to get on with it

Snap Craft. My grandmother used to do the exact same thing back in Cyprus. I was only 3 when I left in '74 to come in and live here but I remember her dispatching the chicken and then pouring boiling water over it so it could be plucked.

I use baby squid in stir-fries and to make calamari. Love them.

I always use a mixture of haloumi and chedder. Have you got any Greek/Turkish deli's near you?

not yet stompe - you know Sunday is the day.....
Craft - I remove the innards and then slice them into little rings. I particularly love the tentacles. I tend to put them into the paella about five mins before the end of cooking time. They just melt in the mouth!

Tiggs - '74??? Wasn't that the year of the invasion? Did you live in Famagusta or somewhere like that?
