If I was to stop taking the contraceptive pill today (for example), approximately how long would it take for me to conceive?

Well JB, that's like asking how long is a piece of string. Some people get pregnant within a few months of stopping, others it takes alot longer. It depends on the individual. Perhaps you should consult your GP.
There is really no set answer to that. Could be anytime depending on your and your partners fertility, age, frequency and timing of sex etc etc etc.

Personally for me it was around two years, but others have conceived the next month. Have you finished a pack, or or you stopping mid pack - I ouldn't recommend the latter as I think that it leaves your body even more confused.

Sorry, after reading my question, i do seem to be a bit vague. Apologies. I was wondering how long does the pill take to be out of your system (so to speak - I stopped taking the pill 10 weeks ago). I am naive, if somewhat stupid about these matters.
not at all, not sure to be honest, have you actually started trying yet, or were you waiting til your body was back to normal? I think that they recommend that you wait until your first "natural" period, but tbh I think that is to make it easier to calculate dates etc

I didnt wait! And now for the 'too much info' section - - - - - Havent as yet had a period, although i started 'spotting' the other day (Really wasnt much at all, almost wouldnt call it spotting). I dont want to build my hopes up too much if its highly unlikely
Thanks for the advice x
are you using any contraception at all now?
if you havnt had a period yet then perhaps you fell pregnant straight away? certainly its possible if you have had spotting and still no period.

Hi Jb.
If it helps at all, I came off the pill for a bit a few years ago. I had been on it for 3 years. When i came off it, it took about 3 months to have anything like a proper period, and about a year to get back to a regular cycle. Sometimes it was about 45 days between, and lasted 9 days, some times 24 days and lasted 3 days.

Your body just needs to find a rhythm again. Thats not to say you cant get pregnant until its settled. You can! My Best Friend came off the pill in June 08, and was pregnant within 2 months, depsite not having had a proper period yet!
