Do cats have "friends"?!

This might sound odd, the last two nights my little sod, ASBO has been followed home by a little black and white female. Tonight when I was trying to coax him in, he ran up to her and rubbed his face on hers and then they both came and sat at the front door (she was dying to get in, but she wears a collar and a bell and looks looked after so I wouldn't encourage it). He has been "done" so it can't be sexual. My other cat is territorial as hell and goes mad if she even sees another cat, but ASBO is quite happy to let all and sundry into his garden and always goes and "investigates". Just interested to what others think.....

I can't give any real advice as my two, brother and sister, merely tolerate each other. Frankie is currently wounded - the holes in his face seem claw sized.

I think that some cats, as you know, are more territorial than others and some are much friendlier. It sounds like he likes this other cat as opposed to just putting up with her. I think that it is nice and sweet - ASBO sounds like a nice wee cat.
how sweet bless him i always find males are more friendly to each other then females issy our three legged is a right mardy little madam to our lisa ,i thought when she lost her leg she wouldnt be so bossy but i thought wrong she is just as bad ,yet with the males she is fine and they have all been done
I think cats definitely have friends. My two never had the same friends though. The smaller one made friends with a big ginger tom next door and I think that was so he got looked after. Even after my cat died the ginger tom used to come to the door looking for him. The other one was always seen in a back garden three doors down with their two female cats even though he had been done.
cats are an enigma - when one accepts this, one becomes a true cat person.
I agree. Cats have friends. My wife and I had two cats. They both used to go all over at night. but my cat " Salem " died of cancer in 07, the about 6 months later a black male cat would folllow my wifes cat home every nigh, or when my wife's cat was inside the black cat would come calling for her by sitting at the back door and meowing..lol
