is it possible to be allergic to piriton? I took one tablet 30 mins ago to stop the burning and stinging from the mozzie bites, but now i am co0vered head to foot in a pink rash of tiny tiny spots under my skin!!!!
I had this same rash in Antigua the year before last and the local doc said it was a heat allergy, but i have been home over 24 hours now !

Dot - Piriton tablet side-effects from their website - you're lucky you've only got the rash!
Occasionally some people may have difficulty concentrating; blurred vision; loss of appetite, indigestion or upset stomach, feeling or being sick; diarrhoea, tummy pain; liver inflammation (which may make you feel weak, sick and turn yellow); difficulty in passing water; headaches; dry mouth; dizziness, palpitations (feeling your heart beat), fast or irregular heart beat, low blood pressure (you may feel faint), chest tightness; thickening of phlegm; blood disorders (anaemia); allergic reactions including itchy rash, skin peeling, and sensitivity to the sun; twitching, muscular weakness and inco-ordination; ringing in the ears; depression (low mood); irritability or nightmares; children may become excited and the elderly may become very confused.

phew!\ yeah, i am definately confused, and last night i couldn;t sleep, but that was the burns from the mozzie bites, but i had palapatations a couple of nights ago when i took a piriton for sunburn, but then that might have been the voddy, i feel abit hot though

I have an underactive thyroid, it mentions overactive there though. mmmmmm

Dot - I take piriton for various allergies, and am always careful to ask my doctor about side effects. A rash wasn't one of them, although if you're taking other medication alongside the piriton, the two combined might cause that. Piriton's one of those drugs that should always be checked against other things you might be taking. Hope you soon feel better.

you could try other tablets next time; Boots do a couple of own-brand formulations which might affect you less. If you're ever in Australia they do wonderful stuff called Stop-Itch, but here it seems only available for horses.
