itching lumps on head

my husband is 80yrs old and recently small itchy lumps
have appeared on his head and he feels almost as if he has lice or something running over his scalp although there is nothing to be seen. Is this a common problem with age?

This is not common. I am a cosmetologist and from what you're describing, this is a scalp condition that needs immediate treatment from a dermetologist.
