I'm going for blood tests tomorrow and know I have to fast, but don't know what the last time I can eat is. Also, does drinking matter? And how about alcohol?

i had one yesterday and was given an advice slip and this is what it said
this is a fasting blood test, which means you should have nothing to eat or drink(other than water )for 12 hours prior to your test. you may continue to take your medication as usual
do drink plenty of water
no black tea or coffee

Did you hear about the Irishman who stayed up all night revising for a blood test?
Sorry to make light of this serious matter, but I merely mirror the advice above.

You can drink water. Other drinks may contain milk, or sugar additives. Depends on what your blood test's for. If you cheat, stuff'd show up in the test and give a false reading, so they'd probably send you home again and make a new appointment.
