please tell me what a client is suffering from who is carrying on his life as if his dead kids were still alive,i>e making dinner etc and laying places on a table.is it a mix of regression and post traumatic stress.whats the name for it

Sounds like a mixture of PTSD and denial. Denial is a fairly natural thing, keeping rooms the same, keeping hold of things etc, for a while at least whilst in an adjustment phase. More a cause for concern if it continues indefinately.

I dont know the age of theperson the post is about, but if it is an older person this can be a sign of memory loss, or dementia in its earlier stages.
What ever the reason he should see his GP to see what is going on and what can be done to help.

Just one thing puzzling me if you dont mind , I agree with the first two responses to a point, but you referred to this person as a client? If you are the counsellor are you not fully trained up? If not perhaps you should place this person with someone more experienced in grief counselling. Forgive me if I have misinterpreted your query.

If this is a real situation, then they may be suffering from prolonged complicated grief in which case they will need profesional help.

It is common practice in healthcare now for patients to be referred as clients. It took me a while to get used to it (I'm a nurse).

A very sad situation of a 'time-warp'. Sounds as though the person has gone thru a terrible tragedy of losing their family.
