Last week my doctor told me that he is almost certain that I have type 2 diabetes, I have to have a Glucose Tolerance test this week to confirm it. To be honest I walked out of the surgery feeling like I had been given a death sentence, he was very abrupt, telling me my hands and feet could fall off...I would lose my sight and my internal organs would sieze up....is there anyone else out there recently diagnosed? Did it make you feel the same....I felt fine till I went there!

you should report your gp for being so abrupt & upseting you. there`s no need to talk to people that way.
Sorry to hear that you were made to feel so awful! I agree with beejaybee, you should report your doctor for being so abrupt. As for the information regarding the possible health effects of diabetes, to a large extent many people manage to control their diabetes very well, and do not suffer such extreme effects.

It's easy to say not to worry, but I would wait for your test results, and if they do come back showing you have diabetes, you can ask to be referred to a dietician, and can also see a diabetes specialist who will advise you and help you to manage this condition.

Good luck!

That is absolutely shocking that your GP spoke to you in this way, and also said what he did say.
There are different types of Diabetes type two, so I would wait until you have glucose tolerance test. You may not have it after all.
Even if you did, most can be controlled either by diet, medication or insulin.
Everything in moderation. I have been type two Diabetes for 12 years, controlled by diet alone.
Not a death sentence. Think I would be changing GP's.
Good luck with your tests. x
Oh , what a dreadful way to speak to a patient . He needs reporting , though you were probably too shocked and upset by him to think straight at the moment.
As cruella says , wait for your results and go to a different gp if you need to discuss the way forward after that . There is such good understanding of diabetes these days , and you get to control and monitor yourself as well as regular checks on eyes etc. I feel sorry that the medical profession has let you down , and hope you will be better treated in the future . x
