Why do people hate emos?

I never understand why so many people hate emos? Could somebody explain what it is that we did to get everybody to hate us so much?

Thanks everyone, I think MK66's awnser is what I was looking for, although I'm not trying to be like anybody, I actualy didn't know what emo was until people started calling me one, and I'm the only emo in my whole school.
