so this provides key information to the public... only the public don't know about it? (I didn't either, gerzcon.) Very useful.

I would imagine its more useful to the AA/RAC highways agency or police, they can pinpoint your position better if you break down or if there is an RTA.

Its been around for several years, but they have been in a less obvious form (small markers)
