my feet are constantly sore, really sore and dry? in my job I am on my feet around 9 hours a day, at night the skin on my feet is split, red and very very sore. I have used lots of products anbd wear cotton socks and my shoes are of course damn good ones, but is this problem getting worse because of
a) my age and will deteriorate even further
b) my job, in which case it's tough
c) my thyroid tablets are not working properly, i am due a review but i had to cancel on wednesday to cover the preston branch

also, what are the chances of my daughter having the saem thyroid disorder?

Don't know Dot, but got the feeling you're not having a good night, so thought I'd just let you know I sympathize! Hurty feet aren't much fun x

lol cheers Bathsheba, my feet are actually on fire but covered in E45 cream and so they will soon settle
Have you checked your blood tests lately dot? unfortunately thyroxine wont clear all you symptoms up but it should nail most of them.

worth looking at your levels, you may need a slight increase if they are dropping

You're not such a cleversod though, are you? You can't spell.
my mam had her thyroid out many years ago, i asked the doc what are the chances of me having the same problem and he said like anything that is in the family, you havea higher chance of getting it, but a blood test should sort it out
Question Author
yes my daughter had a test at 19 but i diud not get diagnosed with it til i was 31, i am going to mention this at my appointment cos the feet are getting worse and it isnlt right i know. i am spending a tidy sum on products but nothing gets rid of it, just eases it

cleversod, get to the gum clinic asap and stop tarting around

when things are associated with it, like weight gain/loss, depression things like that and you go to the docs he will do a blood test, well mine did anyway
if you are stressed or rundown your body needs to use more thyroxine, as you are on a medicated dose then your levels would drop because in a healthy person the body will produce more thyroxine to order in times of physical or mental stress, hence you feeling rough.

dry, cracked heels are a symptom of underactive thyroid (there are also other things that cause dry heels!!)

Dot that is miserable for you and I sympathise greatly as having aching feet is rotten let alone when you're in a job where you're running around all day. My friend has an underactive thyroid and has never mentioned that before. However, her mum and no one else in her family has it. Boots do a really nice mint footbath ( you put in a bowl and soak for ten mins) - it's round by the shoe insoles etc and I really like it after work. Been to a chiropodist?
Question Author
hi beadz, yeah we get a chiropodist cheap once a month but missed her in december, she is very well qualified and knows about the probs of underactive thyroid and she does use a really good deep moisturising balm, that reminds me i should get an appointment for next week, i think i should go more often really now i am getting old lol
cheers beadz xx
