Who are these people who come up with PC rules? Are they a legitimate government depatment? What authority or right do they have to tell us how to behave? If they are allowed to carrry on unchecked, they will bring life as we know it to a standstill.

No they are not Government but are encouraged by the liberal left aka "noo labour". I suspect they are the bain of McBottles life, but dont feel too sorry for him.
The PC Brigade is a tabloid detrimental term used for rules that people do not agree with.

It is not politically correct to have a sign that says "No Blacks, Irish or Dogs"

It is not politically correct to slap a woman's backside or hit her .

These are good examples of political correctness.

Laws were brought in to combat these issues and the majority of people (i believe) think that this is right.

On the other side, a BBC employee thought that the word 'Faggot' may be offensive and so bleeped it out of a Christmas song. Some people see the term 'faggot' as acceptable, some don't. It seems that the majority of people do not see it as offensive.

At the end of the day, someone has to make a judgement call. People who disagree with this judgement will label it as Political Correctness gone mad.
They are on their tea break.
and whether the song is played in an amended version or not, it's not going to bring my life to a standstill. So I'm not personally too terrified

I do not want to turn this question into a rant about racism sexist behaviour etc. But does anyone consult with, for instance,Jewish people, Muslims or any ethnic group for that matter. Do they actually know what is offensive or is it just perceived ? For instance, I have yet to come across a Muslim or Hindu (and I know quite a few ) who is actually offended by Christmas. The ones I know think it is really ridiculous that we are not allowed to hold nativity plays in schools etc. In fact, a lot of Muslims I know get very annoyed, because they worry that people think it is a Muslim driven thing, and thus shows them in a bad light.
Personally, I think we are all paranoid and common sense seems to have gone out of the window. Enough is enough.
They don't exist. Really, really, really. However, the people who disagree with 'PC gone mad' is 100%. The problem is thick people who make up stories abvout PC, and then the avalanche of protests against it. But who are you arguing against? Ever met anyone who thinks that Christmas has been banned? I'll bet you a tenner that you haven't.

You're just shadow boxing.
It would be nice if they did exist.

When your computer stopped working you could call them and they'd slide down a pole and race to your house to rescue you!
There is an ever increasing tendency for certain public officials to try and second guess what certain groups may find offensive. Generally the group themselves are largely oblivious to the perceived "offence". However the tabloids get hold of it and you get the standard "cornflake spitter". As above I doubt any muslim has ever found xmas offensive or indeed any of the christian symbols, but that will not stop some innadequate plonker at the town hall determining that all crosses should be removed from the waiting room. Remember all the baa baa rainbow sheep stuff? I doubt any one ever found the original offensive but someone somewhere may well have mentioned it and The Sun may have got hold of it, before you know it, it is reported as fact.
Supernick is spot on.

The majority of 'PC Gone Mad' is non-existent. The media are usually guilty of reporting a story without follow-up.

Remember the story about the workplace who banned eating at the desk during Ramadan in case it offended Muslims? there was no follow-up reporting that it had been mere suggestion by a jobsworth and hadn't been implemented, mainly due to the Muslim workforce telling him or her that it was all a load of tosh.
It's wrong to say they don't exist, just as it's wrong to assume all the 'PC gone mad' stories are true.

I'd say about a third of the stories are complete fabrication.
Another third have some element of truth which is twisted and blown out of proportion to make a good story.
The final third are accurate.

Tabloid journalists being the scumbag liars that they are, you have to take it all with a pinch of salt.

Since the 1980s many Labour-run local authorities and public sector departments have become run by a new generation liberal establishment who set standards regarding education, community relations, etc. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but in recent years they have tried to change the language, etc.

There is a group called the Campaign Against Political Correctness. They have their own website which you might check out if you're worried about such things.

They get support from several MPs, but mostly Conservative and at least one Lib Dem. Also the UKIP.

Interestingly, NOT ONE Labour MP supports them, probably for fear of the party whip. This disappoints me, because I don't think it should be a right-wing thing.
I call it Political Codswallop. How much time and (taxpayer`s) money is wasted on these nitpickers and hairsplitters? Do they have special meetings or suggestion boxes? Do they get a bonus for originality?

Is civil disobedience a viable option?
do too many questions give you headaches?
