I have recently been getting really bad stomach pains (feel a bit like period pains) and it hurts sometimes more than others. It usually hurts the most either during or after sex, and it is really putting me off making love with my boyfriend. It even hurts when I press my stomach gently. I am worried in case it is anything serious, does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be? And will a smear test detect the problem (as blood tests make me cringe!)

does the area over your kidneys (lower back) feel tender when the pain is at its worst?

no not at all, just my stomach. Most times it's lower down in my stomach
i know this is probably standard advice, but you should have a chat with your GP or gynechologist, to set your mind at rest. It may be nothing serious, but in view of the problems it's causing, you want to get it sorted out and put your mind at rest, and get rid of the discomfort.
Probably not serious - has your diet changed recently?
Go to the GUM clinic, it may be an STD or a urine infection - these can often make your tummy hurt. Best to get checked out and at the GUM you won't need a blood test unless you want testing for syphilis or HIV. And it's worth doing, some STDs can leave us girlies infertile and we don't want that. Have you had a std test before?? If not don't be scared, they spend all day looking at them.

No never had an STD becks, and jenky my diet hasn't changed at all (getting worried now). Will a simple urine test detect the problem?
Do you feel sick with it? Are you bloated? When you say stomach,do you mean directly below where your ribs meet? Christ!! Sorry for all the questions! Has it been going on for long?xx
Hello Casey. Do you ever bleed when you get these pains? In my early 20's, I had a similar problem - pain during intercourse, more in some positions than others. I was with a long-term boyfriend and had to see a gynae. It turned out my uterus tilts the other way to 'normal' which shouldn't really cause problems, but it caused erosion of the lining which I had to have cauterised. It isn't a major procedure and soon had the problem sorted. I would advice you to see your doc to put your mind at rest, as has been suggested. Good luck

Its more my lower abdominals, but it can be all over my stomach. Not changed my diet or anything though. What is the best way to get tested? Blood test or urine test?
This could also be a sensitive appendix...(honestly) if you cant face the std clinic, go have a chat with your gp or the practice nurse, appendicitis ain't funny

How are your periods? Some of your symptoms are similar to endometriosis or maybe polycystic ovaries. There are a few things really, best get it checked out.

my periods are fine, and I know when I'm going to come on as i'm on the pill. I thought it could be the pill, but I've been on the same one for nearly 5 yrs
Casey, there are too many possibilities for you to make an attempt at self-diagnosis. Get to the doctor!
Endemetiosis, is a possible explanation over one million women in this country suffer from it. look it up on the internet
With all due respect to the previous posters, unless any is a qualified GP it is probably a mistake to take any of their advice (well meaning though it is) Always consult a doctor in the first instance.
I had similar pains. They occured after sex one evening and my partner made me go to casualty. I had to wait there for 5 hours, was given a smear test and urine test and there was nothing wrong with me at all. Definitely get checked out, but don't worry too much, cos it might be nothing. I still get pains like that after sex occasionally.
I kind of have the same problem, but its in my lower back, and i had UTI the first time i got it checked out, but i didn't do anything wrong this time, I need help on what this might be.
