Can you get to a Gym or Aerobic classes ?
If for example you consume 1500 calories a day but have no exercise, your body will use say 1200 ish calories on just general everyday living, therefore 300 ish calories will be stored.
However, if you exercise (a good work out that gets your heart rate up ie out of breath that conversation would be difficult, but not impossible) and you burn off more calories than your daily intake, you will definantly lose more than a few pounds in 3 weeks. If you went to the Gym every day for an hour or so and cut out/down fatty or high protien foods, you could realistically lose between 3 - 4lbs a week.
Larger people lose weight quicker but ultimately, if you want a better chance of keeping weight off, you would want to lose a steady 2 - 3lbs a week.
If you only did 1 hour a week and never increased this, you would hit a platto, and would therefore need to gradually increase the amount of exercise to increase the amount of weight loss. Do remember exercise is addictable, it gives the same feel good factor as chocolate and sex. You will lose weight by having more of the later, and less of the other.
I hope you acheive your goal for your Crimbo trip - but if not, you can still have a bloody good time, and sort it out when your home. Afterall your not overweight and Crimbo is about enjoying and indulging !!!!!
