Here we go again racist or not, would I be equally racist to say in my opinion, she looks more like a South Sea islander than a Jew.

The other article makes for interesting reading for the fairer sex, and celebrity gossip "Halle Berry reveals her Baby Bump" (is that what they call it these days)? and the comment that she looks stunning.
But scroll down the first link further chaps, now that's what I call stunning, or am I now being sexist?

She made the comment, then at her request it was removed because she didn't want to cause offence. To say that a distorted photograph gives you a look like a race, could well be offensive, so she apologised. So,where is the racism, I have looked but I can not find it.
Is it the photos of her or of her fiance that you think men will find stunning? You don't want to avoid the trap of sexism only to fall into being homophobic.

She said the photo made her look like her Jewish cousin. I don't think she would have said it if she thought it would offend her jewish cousin, so I can't see how anyone else can be offended.
The word 'Jewish' was bleeped when the show was broadcast as if that is a derogitory word. I don't think it was racist.
Admiring someones beauty is not sexist.

I don't think it's racist. It's certainly inappropriate, but I don't really think her comment falls within the definition of racism at all. But there is a tendency among conservatives and liberals alike to bandy the term around.
AOG - correct me if I'm wrong, but you seem to cling on to any race-related story you can find in the news (or non race-related, when you're feeling really zany), and then tack racism onto it thinking it'll undermine the legitimacy of the term when applied to genuinely racist views. Does this not strike you as a tad pointless?

Halle Berry was rightly pulled up about these offensive remarks.
And let this be a lesson to all those who think that racism is a one way street.
Halle has had to issue an immediate apology for her nasty little remark.
But I notice she didn't have to issue an immediate apology when she, as a driver, was involved in a hit and run accident a year before winning her Oscar for 'Monsters Ball'.
I also note that she didn't issue an apology after making the stunningly bad 'Gothika' or 'Catwoman'.

what is beautiful is socially constructed, our idea's of beauty are constructed through and by white powerful men, so our culture reflects that. Women are immersed in this culture and inevitably 'buy' in to this and will 'police' women who attempt to try and transgress or challenge the formulation of what is considered feminine beauty.
Sorry but I am right. Bye the way I think there is no evidence that any culture has been matriarchal, matrilineal yes. Need a social anthropologist to put us right.
Or it is biologically determined.

I think we can take it that Halle isn't your favourite person sp1814.
Isn't Barry Manalow Jewish 4GS, you little racist you.
If I was to put a tea towel on my head and stated that I looked like an Arab would that be also racist ruby27?
In other words kromovarracun, I'm dammed if I do and dammed if I don't.
As usual ruby27 strutting about in her tweeds, tie and sensible shoes.
After reading that a theatrical group who wanted to put on the musical "Showboat" had to cancel their idea, because they were not allowed to black up white actors, simply because there was no black actors to take the parts.
And the fact that there is controversy, over a new statue of a former Prime Minister, Lloyd George being unveiled today in front of the Houses of Parliament. With accusations that he was a racist.
We could find reasons for every statue ever erected to be taken down if need be. But then we are back to the days of Henry VIII when he had most religious images and statues.
defaced in his fight against catholcism.
Why have some the right not to be offended, and yet others have laws to protect them, where will it all end?

I think it was an ungaurded remark - the sort that people make every day, but if you are a celebrity on a natioanl TV show, then people pick up on it.
The remark was unfortunate, Halle Berry apologised - end of issue.
Yes she is utterly stunning - possibly the most physically beautiful woman in the world.

Well, if you put a tea towel on your head you would probably look idiotic - to then claim by looking idiotic you also looked like an Arab wearing a shemagh, yes that would be a racist comment.
Not really. I for instance can't abide turbans and think they look a bit silly. There's absolutely no racial implications in that statement whatsoever - it's just a matter of personal taste (which to be fair is subject to my cultural background), but even despite that it's still just me stating that I don't like turbans much. AOG's example would be very tasteless, but I don't think it could be construed as racist.
AOG:

Eh?
My statement: I think you have tendency to push race on pretty much any topic in the news in order to try and take the legitimacy out of calling something racist. Do you not think this illogical?
Your response: Well... y'know! Can't really win, can I?
