Do you think it's time to stop this farce? Salman Rushdie is now being given ( no he didn't buy it) a knighthood

FOR WHAT?

Rushdie is one of the most prominent novelists of the late 20th century. Prominent because of his books or because of the fatwa may be open to debate. Must say that Midnights' Children was in my opinion a classic.
I mean we have Sir Tel Wogan, Sir Elton John, Sir Cliff Richard. With that in mind it's not something to really desire is it?
Exactly what I have been trying to find out, the only excuse I have found for this prestigious award being awarded to him, is it is in recognition for his services to literature. I do not think this deserves a knighthood.

It is the same with Ian Botham, hardly benefiting a knighthood when you examine his past record on drugs etc. although he has now redeemed himself with his charity work, but he already has a OBE for this surely?

Perhaps we should award some of our troops knighthoods they deserve it much more.

The day I am not looking forward to, is the day when smiley chops gets to be made Sir Tony Blair, along with Lady Blair.

Not for sitting on the benches of Parliament or for being a one song *******,I bet.
he's pre-eminent in his field, which seems like a pretty good reason. Sooner him than Dan Brown.

The military have their own honours system (eg civilians don't get Victoria Crosses).
will he go in person to buckingham palace?i thought there was a death sentence put on him.i wouldnt like to be standing next to him when he goes to the palace lol
It's not like they get anything cool for being a knight though. Being a freeman of a city, that's the one to go for. You get to drive your cattle through the city centre and no-one can touch you for it.
You complain about Rushdie but what about Ryan Giggs for services to sport? Or John Hegarty for services to advertising? How shallow is that?

I mean, WTF?

In answer to your question, yes it should be stopped especially if it continues as it is.

Perhaps if they concentrated on awarding people for more altruistic endeavours rather than the high profile 'celebrities'. I think it demeans the awards given to those who actually deserve the recognition for doing something good.
Teddy Sheringham MBE.........for his contribution to bagging a bimbo from Big Brother.
I'm baffled by the controversy over this.

If you object to an honour being given to a brilliant novelist, then what should they be given for?

Or are you saying we should scrap them whole honours system?
Do you feel someone in authority is tring to stir things up? I'm surprised Salmon has accepted it as surely he will become a target for a new fatwa. Also by giving an honour to that Russian double agent only antagonises the body he once worked for. So insensitive!
Just look at the protests - screaming Islamists, and of course politically correct Britain will bend the knee.

How long will it be before Britain, dear near-dead Britain, wakes up to the fact that Islam, fundamentalist Islam, is the greatest threat the world has ever seen.

(Mind you, it's too late)
