Hi i have dark brown hair slightly auburn and wanted to colour it myself to this http://i5.tinypic.com/14jm77q.jpg
does anyone know what sort of dye id have to get, do i simply bleach it as i tried that once and didn't get the dark blonde i wanted! And if possible how to do it at home rather than just going into a salon.

any help would be great

The best thing for you to do is go to the hairdressers and get it done properly as it is so easy to mess up on these things (speaking from experience!)
Whatever you do, DO NOT use a pre lightener....unless you want bright orange hair (again...speaking from experience!lol)
Was also meant to add......a friend of mine used a pre lightener and ended up having to run to the hairdressers to get it fixed at a huge expense, just like I did!
Psychick is right ~ especially if you have a red tinge in your hair (auburn) it can be dodgy if you try it at home.

Hairdressers may cost the earth when it comes to colouring, but they can advise you and mix the right shades, rather than you relying on the boxed colourants.

I sometimes use a home colourant ~ I am naturally mousy blonde with a red base (ginger genes!) and the dark blonde shades usually come out more of a brunette colour. Once it turned green!
Pippa, if ever your hair gets a green tinge to it......put tomato ketchup on it for about 20 minutes, rinse then shampoo and condition. That or put on a wash in wash out red hair dye. Both work :)
Oh cheers for that Psychick :o)

Not sure about ketchup..I will just have to get over the stickiness and the smell, lol!

thanks for all your answers, i think ill probably go to the hair dressers, what about a pre lightener then getting a dark blonde colour onto that?
Do not touch the pre lightener!!! lol
Seriously, it's not worth it. You will probably find the hairdressers dont use it either.
Once you have had your hair dyed properly, you may find you can do it yourself at home from then on. Just dont use pre lightener! Ever! At all! lol
