Do alligators live in the Mississippi River?

The American alligator is actually called the 'alligator mississippiensis', though this is probably a reference to the state rather than the river. According to Collier's Encyclopedia (American) they are found "in coastal plains from North Carolina to Texas." Clearly, the end-part/delta of the Mississippi River flows through a coastal plain, so I've no doubt that the alligators are found there. I doubt, though, that one would find them in St Louis, say!

Without a doubt. Visited New Orleans last year and took a swamp tour around the area of where the Mississippi hits the Gulf of Mexico. Saw plenty of aligators - the tour guides chuck marshmallows into the water and they come right up to the boat to get them.
