For what reasons do adults suddenly develop an allergy? I dont mean a food intolerance, I mean a proper allergy. In this case penicillin.

Are you also sensitive to light and feeling abit low and rundown generally? Or do you have a rash on your face?
Question Author
I had a rash all over. I have been taking penicillin for years for tonsilitis or chest infections and was ok with it. This week I have become allergic to it. NO more sensitive to light than normal.
I just wondered if you had any thyroid related problems.,
Question Author
no, had bloodtests recently and that was one of the things thay tested for. Thanks though.
did they test for lupus? SLE?
I wish I know Goodsoulette. I developed an allergy to penicillin when I was in my twenties. I'd had it before no problem then this one time my hands and face swelled up, I had red itchy blothches ALL over my body and I sneezed so often and violently that I ended up with an almost constant nose bleed. I was signed off work for a week (which I hadn't been with my original illness - a chest infection!) and was much more poorly than I had been a week early with said chest infection!
Worringly I developed ecxma for the first ever time two years ago, on my hands and feet. It is now under control but I am now starting to get patches on my face. WHY??? I've never had any problems before!
Question Author
No they didnt test for lupus Dot. Although the antibiotics I am on say they cant be use with SLE and they have been fine, fingers crossed.

Spudqueen, poor you, me dear. Not nice not knowing what your problem is. I would suggest cutting out things that normally cause allergies (start with the evil dairy) and if you have no luck that way go to a brown rice and water couple of days and reintroduce things till you find your culprit.
