I stopped texting a friend, for no reason really. I've been feeling down lately and just couldn't be bothered. Thing is she's coming to visit me. Other than tell her my phone was broke/lost what other excuse can I make for ignoring her texts?

You have been feeling down lately and just couldn't be bothered. How many times has she phoned you to ask if everything is ok? What is wrong with speaking to people? Too much texting is not social interaction it is a short-cut relationship.
If you value her and her friendship, don't make excuses, just tell her the truth. Just tell her that you were feeling down and really just wanted to opt out for a bit. Don't make excuses, true friendship will survive.

On Saturday I was meant to be spending the evening with my best friend, but I was tired and feeling down and just couldn't be bothered to drive for 2 hours. I phoned her and told her exactly that and she was fine about it.

Thanks for the replies. I guess honesty is the best policy here.
Yes, tell her the truth. Just say "really sorry, I've been a bit of a hermit and just haven't been using my phone- not just to you but for everyone. I'm over it now, please accept my apologies!"

I'll do that, Scarlett :).
tell her the truth, my mate has stopped texting me because I've become friends with someone she doesnt like and If she told me her phone had broke I'd know its complete bull, your friend will only think the same.
Sometimes when I get down I push my friends away a bit and stop texting them. They now kind of understand that this is nothing personal, I just need to hide for a while and don't want to talk about what is wrong! If you think you are a bit like this then tell your friend, as otherwise they might think that you couldn't be bothered.

Just an update incase anyone's interested! I apologised to her saying I was feeling down and it was stupid and not nice of me to treat her like that. Anyway, she's forgiven me and I'm actually feeling happier because it's been sorted!
