Don't worry this isn't a pro-life thread intended to make vulnerable women feel terrible about themselves! I was asked this question when I did biology at A-level and it really made me think so I was wondering

Imagine you were a Doctor and a pregnant woman comes to you .She already has 8 children 4 deaf,3 blind and 1 mentally ill.She is also infected with syphilis.Would you incourage her to have an abortion? Believe me there is a reason I am asking.

No, at the end of the day no-one has a right to suggest an abortion to you regardless of the background. It should always be down to the mother.
If I was a GP, I would neither encourage nor discourage an abortion. It is her body, her life and her decision. I would be as supportive as she needed me to be, as her GP.
how long ago were you asked this question ?
How about treating the syphilis first. What stage is it at ?

Good answers! I personally am on the fence on abortion.I believe the pain that the foteus feels during the abortion is nothing compared to the pain the mother would feel if she had to carry the baby and give birth to it when you did not want it.I have no problem ith the MAP but do not agree with abortion once the foetus starts to resemble a human being.Anyway keep the answers coming.

It is not a case I have ever dealt with! I was 17 and my biology teacher asked me this question as he knew I wanted to become a Doctor.I wasn't told any of the details as it was not relevent.
doc, watch you dont fall off that fence.

I am just asking a question! The fact I am a Doctor and the circumstances are not important!
Isn't this an old joke (or story) that refers to the birth of Beethoven or Shakespeare or summink? Someone famous anyway.
retired .lets not forget.
Do you excell in mental health. I feel I need certifying for reading your questions.

It is not a joke! It is a real story. You are right though. The woman in the story was Beethovens mother. Her Doctor encouraged her to have an abortion(for good reasons) but she declined. If she had agreed Beethoven would never have existed! It just made me think how many aborted foetuses could have become great historical figures.
And you claim this isn't a post "intended to make vulnerable women feel terrible about themselves"? I disagree, I think thats EXACTLY what you intended to do- and frankly it's in poor taste.
A strange sentiment from someone who proposes to be an educated professional. The same could apply for the use of contraception.
this post has a familiar smell
If you are a doctor then I'm the Queen of Sheba.
Question Author
I am pro-choice actually.I am just pointing out that whether you agree with abortion or not, that is something you have to think about.I know it made me think.
Question Author
Yes you could say the same for contraception but no baby has even been created then.
A proper doctor would refer to it as an embryo or a foetus. You are a charlatan.
Of course women who are faced with this painful decision realise that you dozy pillock (this will probably get reported now right?)

How dare you sit there smugly voicing your opinion on something that (if you really are a man) you will never know anything about?

go take your smug self righteous opinions elsewhere!
