i am a student in a culinary school. the school's great and i love learning it's just that standing all day bothers me. it doesn't bother me-me because from all the baking and cooking, i don't even notice being tired or having stood up for 6 hours without any rest at all.... but it does bother my legs. before i sleep or when i wake up or sometimes i get cramps. then the back of my knee just hurts a lot. and my mother tols me that i might get varicous veins if i don't take care of my legs. and i know how having varicous veins will hurt, although i have not experienced the pain, it's just that my mom told us how it is hard to have varicous veins because she has a lot. please help me. my mom already told me some tips but i need more..help!! please. i need my legs to walk properly because i live in a dormitory and i walk most of the time. help......!

Hi koreen, I understand about your legs aching and the back of your knees too. Is there any way you can go and get a professional massage? maybe on a day off? or the local swimming baths/gym may have a jacuzzi you could use? a nice soak in a warm bath helps too.
Are you wearing proper shoes?

Look after your health hon, it's too important.... :-)
there is a remedy called antistax for circulation etc

also perhaps just tell your tutor the problem and ask if you can bring a stool in and sit on it to chop etc, i doubt they'll mind
Koreen, very unglamorous but you might need to think about support tights and when you are resting make sure you have your feet up to give your circulation a hand. Also what shoes are you wearing? You need some proper support.

i'm wearing clogs. i forgot what brand i bought though. it think it's garden clogs. it was the only one in the store and i needed clogs so i just bought it. it is really comfortable, but i have been thinking of looking for a new one.. i think crocs is good. i have heard of birkenstock, is it really the recommended brand for clogs? we can't sit. but we happen to have breaks while waiting for our dough to ferment or cool, so i take my time on seating down and stretching my legs. thanks for the help..thanksthanksthanks
