Hi,

I have an ear infection that has been on and off for the past 3 weeks. After a 3rd trip to the doctor yesterday I have eventually been prescribed some antibiotics called Co-amoxiclav. Does anyone know if A) I can have a glass or two of wine with them and or B) if I can take ibuprofen or other pain killers whilst on the course?

I have recurring ear infections and have been given Co-amoxiclav at one point or another. I was told I could take the tablet then 2 hours later painkillers then 2 hours later antibiotic and so on.

If you are unsure ask your GP or phone NHS direct.
read the literature which should have come with your antibiotics

I did not get any literature with my antibiotics.
phone the chemist where you got your antibiotics from they are usually very helpful
i work in pharmacy. as with most antibiotics (with the exception of metronidazole) it's ok to have alcohol in moderation with these painkillers. just one or two drinks will be fine.also taking painkillers at the same time will be fine.ibuprofen prob best one to take if not asthmatic etc as it will take any inflammation down.and if pain particularly bad take a painkiller such as ibuprofen and codeine(ie nurofen plus)it's that bit stronger if u need it.hope this helps.
